Ultra Close-Up Portraits Using a Rare Pentax 67 Accessory
Was able to get my hands on the very rare s82 Close-Up Lens for the 105mm f/2.4 lens for the Pentax 6x7/67/67ii system. This diopter reduces the minimum focusing distance by about half and creates an even shallower depth of field, resulting in some very interesting portraits and images. This close-up lens diopter for the 105mm is not the only way to achieve a closer focusing distance, extension tubes can also be used.

A Day in Northern Washington with my Pentax 67ii
Yakima is a great town. If you don't ever go there.
I recently just got into medium format film photography and I found an old super eight in my grandma‘s basement and I thought it would be cool to maybe get Hey there! I came across your video and it really inspired me. My camera hasn't been working because of something to do with the motor, and I kind of gave up on it. But after watching your video, I'm feeling really inspired and now I want to shoot some super cool stuff too!
2:40 ㅎㅎ good
I don't care for the Negative Supply modular set up - it's too fiddly, the dust brush doesn't align (who the hell designed that ?), & having to place a glass plate to keep the negative flat ? Oh no. Give me Valoi modular copy equipment anyday, be it 35mm, Medium or Large Format - it's also considerably cheaper. I note you're using Adobe software - you must have money to burn.....hey, each to their own.....
Fantastic video! I tried this on 3 occasions 2 grocery stores were I was asked to leave...3rd was an auto parts store n no one cared...the grocery stores were late at night, very empty but managers were not happy...0 pics...parts place employees even posed for me...used my Pentax SP1000 35mm 2.8...keep them ideas n videos coming!!
Hanoi is surely great place for street life photography...
I love Velvia
wow
Yeah it is
I did the same thing. 11 years ago I jumped off of approximately a 40’ cliff in eastern Washington. I did not hit the bottom, but the impact of that jump (I’m a 5’9 150lb female) completely shattered my vertebrae. I did not get off as easily as you did. I had my spine reconstructed with titanium’s cages in emergency surgery that took me many, many years to “recover” to the point of even being able to walk again… let alone walk out of the water. I had a quarter of a million dollar surgery, where both of my lungs collapsed and I was at one point, pronounced dead. I’m so happy you got off easy, and I hope you know that you did indeed… get off easy. Please do continue to keep anyone else from ever doing this, because it can go wrong so easily, and so much worse than what happened here.make every day count. Keep living the life that took you to that cliff, just…. Live it with the knowledge you have about how small we really are compared to nature.
Well done Brae, I can't wait to test out my F100 also.
8:09 she looks beautiful especially on this ektar
Seems like 16mm is the way to go. I love the older 35mm film stocks, but the new ones tend to look almost digital.
Great video
Nice Foley sound!
My wallet needed to see this........ I almost spent $5.495 on a Kodak Super 8 camera. Glad I didn't. Whilst on a wait list since 2016, it finaly arrived at B&H, and told that I had 4 days to pay for it! Super 8 is cool for what it is, but I already own a few Pro8mm cameras. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video and decided to make the jump to 16mm instead Thanks Brae.
Ektachrome is incredible ;) It's amazing to project it!
finally found someone make a review about it, nice videoo!!!! love it
4:46 also love looking at these with a slide projector.
I have my grandfather to thank for first seeing the magic of slide film. It holds a 3D and lifelike quality to it that you cannot replicate elsewhere. I stumbled on a new affordable slide film called KOMISO. I haven't shot using it but it makes it more affordable for 35mm film.
Absolutely burning through that last roll good god (worth it, photo at 11:00 is so beautiful!!)
The lab scan look better and more realistic than the home scan which looks somewhat fake( blue hour ain't as bright as that, no greens at blue hour etc..). I guess you're using the built-in light meter in the mamiya 7ii, it becomes interesting if you skip that meter and use a handheld light meter or guess the light reading and keep 'em fingers cross for the result..
What was the app that you used to calculate reciprocity, please? Thanks! Loved the video-it really helped me get over my nervousness in entering the world of large format photography!
Reciprocity+
@@BraeHunziker Thank you!
Bro these are amazing!!
Thanks dude!
thank you Brae for such a thorough video
Thanks for watching!
As a Irish viewer, I approve of this video
haha lets go 🍻
Haha this is not about the videos subject, but is this your room? 3:19 Such nice use of colors and furniture!
My girlfriend will love to hear that haha thanks
Do you consider the zone system from ansel adams at all while shooting / metering? Would be cool to have your opinion and what you meter for in landscape, especially in high contrast scenes you mentioned.
They are even harder to find now. You just drove up the price 100%. I have a like new in box s82. Could maybe be talked out of it. Now accepting insane offers.
I think i needed that philosophy session at the end of the video Haha Thank you for sharing!
maybe NLP thought the moon is dust spot? does NLP have dust spot removal function like flat bed scanner?
Yeah that's almost what it seems like haha. I don't think NLP has this feature though.
Jeez talk about razor thin, fair play for getting any of those in focus haha Lovely shots man.
We tried haha! Thanks dude 🙏🏼
Use a tripod
Alicia was a very good sport to put up with you being that close with the camera. My significant other would have pushed me away after the first 10 minutes. Surprised at the number of good images you got at f4 but the 5.6’s were the best overall. Did you try any other f stops like f8
I only stopped down to 5.6 in this video. Will likely mess around with some at f/8 and f/11 in the future!
Very very nice very. Thank you RS. Canada
Thanks for watching, Richard!
The shot at :018 is incredible. P.s. you’ve inspired me to get dehancer. Great work!
Thanks! Cheers
How do i connect it with my camera? It doesn’t flash when i click
Very nice shots! You get a really nice look with that thing.
It does provide some fun results!
11:08 crazy how nice the bokeh is still at f5.6 here
f/5.6 definitely seems like a nice sweet spot!
That would be sick with some P30 and a blue filter.
Bro, I wonder if your model is charging you enough?!? Thanks for the great videos. I just never consider anything below 5.6 but your videos always make me think, like it is kinda acceptable to let the tip of the nose be slightly fuzzy providing the rest is in focus
Haha yeah she isn't for sure.. Shallower depth of field definitely works well for certain scenarios!
Great stuff. I have to remind myself that landscape photography is like the stock market. Time in it > timing it. Thanks for the reminder that the most important part is showing up.
Well said!
Love the video, but I especially love your talk at the end. I've started doing this on my channel. In fact, the video is titled shooting random things is ok. Lol. Great work again, Brae.
Thanks Wil! Happy shooting!
There used to be soooooooo many different types of film stocks for motion pictures. It took a lot of research and tests to decide how you wanted your film to look, because it goes so far beyond 100D and 400T. It was such a unique and satisfying process, my twin brother and I shot a lot of times with Panavision 35mm Motion Picture cameras. Everyone was always on their toes, because when that camera started rolling, was also the sound of money being spent. Plus it was so much more exhilarating. Take a Quick Look at these links. The first is how they shot The Ring (2002) with certain film stocks to create the color of the film “in camera” it’s really informative for those interested in shooting on film: ruclips.net/video/d3Eg9fo4c_M/видео.htmlsi=c7JkxAZK4_YLKUbc Also, a link that shows the enormous variety of different film stocks that used to exist: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_motion_picture_film_stocks This below, alone is just black and white Kodak film stocks from 1954 - 1967 Eastman Tri-X panchromatic Negative film 5233 320D/250T introduced in 1954 Plus-X reversal film 7276 50D/40T introduced in 1955 Tri-X reversal film 7278 200D/160T introduced in 1955 Plus-X Panchromatic Negative film 5231/7231 80D/64T introduced in 1956 (discontinued in 2010) Double-X 5222/7222 250D/200T introduced in 1959 Plus-X reversal 7265 (16 mm & 8 mm) 100D/80T Tri-X reversal 7266 (16 mm & 8 mm) 200D/160T Eastman 4-X negative Pan film 5224/7224 500D/400T introduced in 1964 (discontinued in 1990) Kodak 4-X reversal film 7277 400D/320T introduced in 1967 discontinued in 1990 Kodak Tri-X TV reversal film 7727, TVTX, no longer identified by EKC The history of film and cinema is so rich with inspiration that most filmmakers today don’t take advantage of the older film and the filmmakers from years past. There is a massive wealth of inspiration being overlooked and forgotten. Check out this message from Steven Spielberg 25 years ago: ruclips.net/video/kdoC-5OI2xY/видео.htmlsi=Ug4lzo3RlARJ2wt0
What're the advantages of this over the extension set? Thanks.
Portability, screws onto the end of the lens instead of between camera and lens. Extension tubes have advantages too
@@BraeHunziker thanks for the reply! Yeah I’d not heard of this filter before. Super interesting.
In the heyday of film 18min double prints was normal.
I am definitely in the "not everything has to hit perfect focus" camp. It is about the emotion that the photo draws. So that shot were you just missed her eyes -- absolutely gorgeous. Excellent work and video
thanks! I've gotten a few photos slightly out of focus like that that I end up really enjoying.
That corner mountain shot was stunning.
haha yeah that was crazy
I've been using this kind of close-up lens diopters on the Bronicas (SQ-A & GS-1) and it's quite fun but like you said, stopping down's almost mandatory :)
Haha yeah it really is if you want it remotely sharp. The softer look can be fun for certain scenarios.
Two videos in one week? Yeehaw! 🕺 Man, you can cut bread with that razor-thin DOF. Wonderful photos as always, Brae.
Haha thank you!
